A. WOOD - to be painted
All surfaces are to be dry and sanded smooth, free of loose dirt, dust and oil.
Before applying an overall coat of Regal FirstCoat (216) or Moore's Alkyd Enamel Underbody (217), spot prime nail holes, cracks and blemishes before and after puttying. Knots are to be coated with Moore's SPS Stain Killer (340) or Moore's QD 30 (202) before an overall coat of Regal FirstCoat (216) or Moore's Alkyd Enamel Underbody (217) is applied.
All coats must be thoroughly dry before applying succeeding coats, and lightly sanded between coats.
Avoid general use of shellac as an undercoat.
After fitting by the carpenter, top and bottom of all doors must be primed with the same primer as the face of the doors.
B. WOOD - to be stained; natural wood (clear finishes)
All surfaces shall be dry and sanded smooth, free of loose dirt, dust and oil.
Fill all nail holes, cracks and blemishes after staining with filler tinted to match the color of the wood or stain.
After fitting by the carpenter, top and bottom of all doors must be sealed with a clear coating.
C. PLASTER, GYPSUM, KEENE'S CEMENT, TEXTURED SAND FINISH
All surfaces must be thoroughly dry and clean. Newly plastered walls and ceilings should be allowed to cure for at least 30 days under good drying conditions. Safe level for painting to be determined by use of a moisture meter.
Cracks, voids and abrasions must be spackled and finished in the same wall texture and finish flush to the adjoining surfaces. Repaired surfaces are to be spot-primed with Regal FirstCoat (216), Moore's Alkyd Enamel Underbody (217), Moorcraft Super Spec Latex Enamel Undercoater & Primer Sealer (253) or Moorcraft Super Spec Alkyd Enamel Undercoater & Primer Sealer (245) before applying an overall coat of the same.
D. DRYWALL, WALLBOARD, COMPOSITION BOARD, WOOD PULP BOARD
All surfaces must be free of sanding dust, and joint treatment cement should be thoroughly dry.
Damaged or defective surfaces are to be repaired by spackling or by other appropriate measures.
Steel corner heading is to be coated with Moore's SPS Stain Killer (340) before applying Regal FirstCoat (216) or Moorcraft Super Spec Latex Enamel Undercoater & Primer Sealer (253) and water-thinned coatings.

E. MASONRY, POURED/PRECAST CONCRETE, CEMENT AND CINDERBLOCK
Poured concrete and precast concrete must be allowed to cure for 60 - 90 days; block and stucco surfaces must be allowed to cure for 30 - 60 days.
All surfaces must be thoroughly brushed with a stiff fiber brush to remove loose particles, with particular emphasis on block mortar courses.
Surfaces are to be dry, free of greasy residue and mortar spatters.
Form release agents are to be removed with appropriate solvents, and laitance deposits must be thoroughly removed by hand, power wire brushing or other appropriate means.
Cracks, joints, large voids are to be filled by repointing, caulking, or other approved means.
Note: if honeycomb in poured or precast concrete surfaces is to be filled, this should be specified.
If efflorescence is present, first dampen the wall with water, then scrub the surface with a 10% solution of muriatic acid. Caution: Wear rubber boots and gloves, work goggles, and protective clothing. After treatment, thoroughly flush the surface with clean water to remove all acid and allow to dry thoroughly before painting.

F. MASONRY - Concrete Floors
Poured concrete floors must cure for 60 - 90 days before painting.
Cement spatters should be removed; holes and crevices to be filled with mortar. Surface to be swept free of dirt, dust and debris.
Floor is to be washed with Moore's IMC Oil & Grease Emulsifier (M83).
Steel troweled concrete must be etched with a 10% solution of muriatic acid or Moore's IMC Concrete Pretreatment & Etch (M85), then rinsed thoroughly and washed with Moore's IMC Oil & Grease Emulsifier (M83) and then thoroughly rinsed. Allow to dry completely before painting.
CAUTION: Follow manufacturer's directions; use rubber gloves, work goggles, and protective clothing.
G. METAL - Ferrous
All metal surfaces shall be washed with solvent to remove extraneous dirt, grease, and oil before painting.
Where shop coat is abraded and rust has developed, remove by sanding and spot prime immediately with lron-CladAlkyd Low Lustre Metal & Wood Enamel (163), Iron-Clad Latex Low Lustre Metal & Wood Enamel (363), Moore's IMC Acrylic Metal Primer (M04), Moore's IMC Alkyd Metal Primer (M06), or Moore's IMC Universal Metal Primer (M07).
Coat surface where all traces of rust cannot be removed with Moore's IMC Rust Converter (M82) or Moore's IMC Rust Pretreatment (M84).
H. METAL - Galvanized
All new galvanized surfaces must be aggressively cleaned with a grease-cutting solvent such as mineral spirits, then primed with IronClad Latex Low Lustre Metal & Wood Enamel (363) or Moore's IMCAcrylic Metal Primer (M04).
Periodically change to a clean wiping cloth to prevent redistribution of greasy or oily residue.
Note: Some galvanized surfaces have stabilizers, many of which are not soluble in solvents. These must be removed by either brush blasting or chemical treatment.
I. Special Finishes and Substrate Surface Preparation
1. Texturing - on New Sheetrock, Wallboard
Surface must be dry, clean, and free of dirt, oil, dust, grease, and surface contaminants.
Apply one coat of Regal FirstCoat (216) or Moorcraft Super Spec Latex Enamel Undercoater & Primer Sealer (253)
Apply Texture to primed surface
2. Skim Coating
Veneer Plaster - after cure of 24 to 48 hours
Surface must be clean and free of dirt, oil, dust, grease, surface contaminants, and dry.
Apply one coat of Moore's Alkyd Enamel Underbody (217), Regal FirstCoat (216), Moorcraft Super Spec Alkyd Enamel Undercoater & Primer Sealer (245) or Moorcraft Super Spec Latex Enamel Undercoater & Primer Sealer (253)
Conventional Plaster - after 30 day cure
Surface must be dry, clean and free of dirt, oil, dust, grease, and surface contaminants.
Apply one coat of Moore's Alkyd Enamel Underbody (217), Regal FirstCoat (216), Moorcraft Super Spec Alkyd Enamel Undercoater & Primer Sealer (245) or Moorcraft Super Spec Latex Enamel Undercoater & Primer Sealer (253)
